For English class we had to write three sonnets on a topic of our choice. We most likely associate the sonnet with Shakespeare because he was the dude that more or less invented it. it is 14 lines that have every other line rhyming and follows a beat (duh-DUH-duh-DUH-duh-DUH-duh-DUH-duh-DUH) -helps to tap your finger when you read them. Of course he talked about love and beauty and all the romantic stuff that gets the girls, but how often are they on realistic stuff that people understand? I am sure some people out there understand and enjoy his work, but i have a real tough time following it. That is why when I wrote mine, it had nothing to do with the romantic side (surprised?) and all about the funnier and more realistic side ('nother curve ball at ya). Here are my three sonnets that talk about the sequence of events leading up to my first (awkward) high school dance.

Sonnet 1:
A: And so it is the morning of
B : my very first dance of public school
A : where rumors of joy and finding love
B : come even if you are a fool
C : With little time before it starts
D : yet stuck at a cross country meet.
C : less nervous is the thought to fart
D : then dance and show my two left feet
E : but first I must find what to wear
F : Dads suit; Dad’s shirt; why not his tie?
E : they all will surely stop and stare
F : must I go? I prolly will die
G my mom dropped me off and said;
G: ”ya' don’t have to dance, drink punch instead!”
Sonnet 2:
A: The hour before the dance draws near
B : but first we must go out to eat
A : Tis still the dance that I do fear
B : And it be known by my wet feet.
C : The food looks and smells so good,
D : shame it was to bring ten bucks
C : Afford two plates, I wish I could
D : it seems my date is out of luck.
E : But dinn’r is done and time to go
F : Away to this event I dread
E : a dance awaits, for this I know
F : an’ girl I ask I will turn red.
G : But could this be my night of fame?
G: Or will the school think me as lame?
Sonnet 3:
A: We walk in through the school’s front door
B : And hear the music which filled the air.
A: I lipped a prayer, “please save me, Lord”
B: Who would have thought I’d be so scared.
D: I search in vain for quick escape
C: If only I could find a place.
D: Where is the man in the red cape
C: to take me into outer space.
F: Agreed to dance to just one song
E: I waited for “Y.M.C.A”
F: I knew the dance, what could go wrong?
E: But halfway through, “Get out th’ way!”
G: Away from my first dance I walked
G: with signs of fatigue and pure shell shock
